What types of surrogacy are available in Ontario?

In Ontario, there are two types of surrogacy: gestational surrogacy and traditional surrogacy.

Gestational surrogacy: In gestational surrogacy, an embryo created using in vitro fertilization (IVF) is implanted into the uterus of the surrogate. The embryo is created using the intended parents' or donors' genetic material. In gestational surrogacy, the surrogate is not genetically related to the child.
Traditional surrogacy: In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate's eggs are used. This is done through artificial insemination using sperm from an intended parent or a donor. In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate is genetically related to the child.

In Ontario the law does not distinguish between gestational and traditional surrogacy.
